| | Description | Ideal for fishing, canoeing, or just paddling on the lake, the Coleman Fastback Kayak provides a quick, easy way to get out on the water. The Fastback Kayak is a 1-person craft, 10'10" long when inflated. It's made of durable 840D nylon on top and 840D woven, laminated nylon on bottom, with a heavy-duty cover. It boasts a 30-gauge PVC bladder. The kayak has many features for safety, comfort and convenience, including neoprene paddling guards, dual-bladder hydration system, retractable spray skirt, a water-resistant pouch, mesh storage, a large storage compartment, multiple D-ring hooks, and pull handles. Coleman kayaks feature an aggressive deep V entry hull for easy paddling and greater speed. The hull flares out to a wider beam with two additional lateral keeps for stability and superior tracking. The Coleman Airtight System and Double-Lock Valve guarantee a leak-free inflatable, and make the kayak easy to inflate and deflate quickly. | |

I love this boat Jul 25, 2009
By Richard C. Schott I paid the same $[...] the others did. So far I've had this boat in Mianus Pond in CT, Thompson's Lake near Albany, the Delaware and Susquehanna rivers in PA, Farmington River in CT, and the Housatonic in CT. The boat has done fine in class I through class III whitewater, in class IV we got our butt kicked but honestly I don't know if it was the the boat or just the fact that I'm a brand-new paddler. In any case the boat was just fine after this adventure, me... I'm still healing here and there :)
It fits in my Miata trunk along with my PFD, Aqua-bound paddle, throw bag, and a high-volume air pump I got for it. When I paddle with folks that have hardshell kayaks, I'm usually ready for the water about as quick as anybody despite the pumping... it inflates fast.
It has some nice touches... the integrated hydration pockets, the "fastback" storage area, the bungee D-rings.
"Downsides"? It's an inflatable kayak. When you paddle hard, a lot of your energy goes into "wagging" the bow back and forth, rather than pushing the boat forward. You have to paddle harder to keep up with hardshell kayakers, and if they want to leave you behind, they probably can. If you can go your own pace though, especially in moving water, the boat is a joy to use. Great value.

Rugged inflatable at a good price Jul 05, 2009
By Stephen D. Sullivan
"Read my books! - www.stephendsullivan.com"
Picked up this kayak recently at a heavy discount at Dick's Sporting goods. I wanted something I could transport easily, without car carriers and such. This kayak fits the bill nicely. It fits in the trunk in a plastic tub (or across the back seat). I got a 50 gallon for it, but a 35 would probably do, or even a 30. I also picked up a nice paddle, though Coleman's sturdy aluminum ones (not included) would probably have done fine. Overall, I'm very pleased with this boat. It inflates easily (get a rechargable pump -- mine came from KMart) and quickly. You may want to inflate the headrest, which has a small valve, by mouth. The clip-in seat is comfortable and has good back support. About the only problem I had with this is that the instructions are terrible; there are not 5 Coleman inflation valves on the kayak. (Only 4, if you count the tiny headrest one.) I spent some time looking for that "missing" valve. Having gotten a sit-on-top Coleman afterward, I have to say that this boat is probably more than I initially needed. The nylon hull that surrounds the inflatable core is very sturdy, probably enough to stand up to rocks, sticks, and other hazards not found on the placid lake where I'm paddling. My guess is that this would be great for whitewater or long trips -- it has plenty of storage space, and even a water dispenser. It's fun on the lake, too, don't get me wrong, but a bit unwieldy for just one person to get into the water without dragging. Of course, it's probably rugged enough to drag; I just don't like to. Anyway, I love this boat, and it's a good place to start kayaking. If you want something less ambitious (or cheaper), try the Coleman sit-on-tops; they're great fun, too.

Coleman Exponent Review May 20, 2009
By Adam Bunday I bought this kayak from a well known regional sporting goods store at 50% off, for a grand total of $150. Normally I would never look at a Coleman inflatable for a kayak, but at that price, the value was too good to pass up. The convenience of being able to throw it into my car trunk and be fishing on the lake in 10 minutes makes this a lot of fun. The quality is great and extremely durable due to the 840 denier nylon that it's made from. It's been over rocks and barely submerged trees without a mark on it. The only downside is that it probably doesn't track as well as the hard shell kayaks. I'm sure the higher priced inflatable kayaks would be much better for white water, but for the price (especially if you can find a deal), I highly recommend it. I would recommend the foot pump and the pump that plugs into your car cigarette lighter, along with some decent paddles. You will get a little wet, but the spray cover helps. Buy one and have some fun.

The Fastback Is a Winner May 14, 2010

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RUFJLHF50SLYY The Coleman Fastback was delivered to my front door with NO DELIVERY CHARGE and is an awesome deal. If it only lasts one year (and it will probably last much longer), I would consider buying another one. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because, as other reviewers noted, it tends to blow sideways in the breeze because of the lack of a solid keel. But it's no big deal.

outstanding product May 21, 2009
By David Fiorino I was a little skeptical with the idea of an inflatable kayak, but I wanted to just try one out for the first time without spending too much. I got it at half off at Dick's sporting goods so for $150 it was worth a shot. It is very durable and well designed. It looks cool and feels pretty good sitting in it. It doesn't feel very tippy to me at all. It is firm oncae ainflated and easy to navigate. This is the first time I have ever been in a kayak. It does get a little hot on your leags being surrounded by rubber which makes the retractable skirt a definite plus. The only flaw I see so far is the lack of a carry/storage bag.
