Fantastic boat for the price!! Aug 17, 2010
By Tony Ray I wanted two sit-on kayaks, but they were $500 each in the stores, on sale. After some research I discovered the Spitfire. The reviews, the price, and the free shipping convinced me to buy two AND a pair of Intex Kayak Paddle / Boat Oars for the price of one boat in the store.
They came yesterday wrapped in bubble wrap, no box, so be sure and inspect the boat before the shipper leaves. We stacked them on the top of the car and spent a couple of hours on the water. I couldn't be more pleased. The overall quality is good and it is very comfortable and easy to paddle. The plastic is hard, next time I'll take a cushion.
To be fair, you really can't call these boats 'kayaks' - the real 'sit-in' kayaks were passing us like we were sitting still. These are just fun, lazy boats for casual floating and paddling. If you wanted a kayak to paddle long distances, these would not be the best choice. Also, the boat doesn't have a keel so with every stroke of the paddle, the nose turns left and right - would be nice to have a shallow keel so the boat would paddle straight.
I checked the prices several times and they change for no reason. I paid $238, right now they're $231, and I've seen them for almost $300. Check back often to get the best price. AND why are the different colors different prices??
One more thing, there was feedback about losing 'drain plugs' - don't worry. The drain plug is a small plug in the back of the boat and is secured so it can't be lost. They do offer a 'Emotion Scupper Plug Kit for Spitfire" - DO NOT BUY. The six holes in the bottom of the Spitfire allow water to drain out of the boat, which is above the waterline. These plugs would keep water in the boat - and they can't be removed while you're on the water. AVOID

Mom with kids on the lake Mar 28, 2010
By Becky R We live on the lake and own two of these kayaks. They are lighter than some kayaks and therefore easier for my children to get in and out of the water with them. The best feature is if they tip over you cannot get stuck inside like a previous kayak that we owned. MUCH SAFER with children. They are also bright so they are more visible on the water. Only problem that we have had is when someone takes out the drain plug, the plug will sink rapidly and then needs to be replaced. Obviously, there is no need to remove the plug, but children will be children. Easy to maneuver and a lot of fun!

Very good for the price, if you know what you're buying Sep 11, 2010
By J. M. Lane At a resort on a lake last year, my 5 year old jumped on a small kayak similar to these, and paddled like he had been doing it for years. Everyone was amazed. The kid took to it like a fish in water. So for his 6th birthday this year, we got him one of these at a local "outdoor store". It was perfect for him. He can drag it up and down the shore of a lake, can launch and land it himself, and paddles it non-stop. His 8 year old sister was jealous, so I looked here and found it for even less than the local place had it "on sale". So I ordered one here. Came wrapped in bubble wrap in perfect shape. Now both of them paddle these.
My wife and I paddle large sea kayaks, and have many years of experience kayaking on all kinds of waters. We didn't expect a lot for the price of these little plastic sit-on-top boats. We got more than we expected. They really are a very good deal. As others have said, they do not track well (they do have a "keel", contrary to one review...one has to know what a keel is to comment on this...it's just not very effective). But to tell you the truth, I don't think that's such a bad thing. The kids learn to control the boat with their bodies and the paddles. Whitewater kayaks don't "track well" either. Boats are different and you develop skills in all of them.
My wife and I have both tried these little things out, and they handle our size and weight just fine (I'm 5' 7" and 185 lbs). Not a boat I would choose as an adult, but hey, it can be done. These are really best for young people learning to paddle, or as water toys on flat water. For the price, they are probably about the best deal on the market for that purpose.

Great kayak for first time kayaker Jul 30, 2010
By kerrib I just outfitted a spitfire kayak and took it out for the first time...first time kayaking ever, too. I really enjoyed the kayaking itself, I plan on doing this often! The spitfire impressed me quite a bit! I am only 4'11" and was able to get the kayak on and off the car by myself. I also got it to the water and in by myself. It was a little awkward, but I made it. I was very comfortable and the paddling felt natural after not too long. The only comfort I added was a skwoosh gel seat..otherwise, I was perfectly comfortable and would recommend the spitfire for anyone new to kayaking.

Wish we had bought this sooner !!! Aug 09, 2010
By Ozarker First of all I was so pleased with Amazons promptness in shipping our two kayaks. They actually arrived 5 days earlier than projected so we are extremely happy with that.
The kayaks are a load of fun and are standing up to the scrapes and bumps in our river beds. I crashed and burned one time but it was before I learned how to handle swift water turns and of course I popped right back up, grabbed my Spitfire and was able to get back on and away we went again. They seem to be extremely stable and I like the way I can turn on a dime to avoid rocks and downed trees.
We have only had our Spitfires since July 14th but we took it on a 10 day vacation and used it all but 2 days while there and just took another outing yesterday. This is the most fun we've had in years and like I said--- I wish we had purchased these years ago !
Back again-- several outings later--still in love with my Spitfire !! We have logged over 36 hours in ours now and are more pleased than ever. It is sooo stable and easy to turn that I feel like I am in complete control of it.
I would recommend this kajak (and in fact I already have) !
