Maxxon Cayman ii Nov 26, 2011
By gp I will be doing an ongoing perspective of my first kayak, the Maxxon Cayman ii I dont feel quailified to "review' as I am a newbie. I hope this helps in your buying descision! I do know quality when I see it when it comes to material and how things fit together. My first impression of this kayak is just OK. The materials used seem to be quality but have a couple of issues with how it was all put together. First the tubes in the really nice material don't seem to fit in there quite right and sitting on the floor of my living room it sits a little cockeyed. I have tried to deflate and adjust the tubes and this only helped a little. The valves that protrude the outside material are off somewhat . I will be testing on the water tomorrow and let you know if this is a real problem or just a first impression. The second problem I occured was putting together the two piece paddle the hole where the two pieces connect was a little off and required some filing for the metel pop pin to fully extend into the hole so they would not just come apart while rowing. This was not a big thing but wanted to mention. I will give my perspective on the water as I take it out for the first time tomorrow with a friend. I will take some pictures and post them as well. I welcome any questions and will answer to the best of my abilities.
11/26/2011- First trip out in the kayak and all went well, I had a friend with me so we went out in it in the tandem mode. I felt as a beginner we did good the kayak was easy to maneuver and tracked fairly well with the attached skeg. We went approx. four miles on a sunny California day with little wind. I felt like I could continue but decided to head back to the truck for some wine and chesse..it was a fun time the kayak was easy to set-up and with no prior experience it handled well, therefore assigning it four stars.

Not bad May 07, 2012
By Larissa Rutherford I would rather give this kayak 4 and 1/2 stars instead of just 4, but that is not an option. I purchased this back in March so I got it for a little cheaper than the summer price and I will say its worth the money. The seats are pretty comfortable, they offer decent back support and could last for some all day fun. It is very quick to get the boat inflated as you only have you blow up the floor and two sides. This is unlike the sea eagle which you have to blow up both seats 2 skirts the floor and both sides.
There is a storage back on the back of each seat which is very convenient. The paddles also are pretty good, I found them to be just the right length. The kayak tracks amazingly well compared to the sea eagle we had before! It is easy to travel in a straight line. It is also very sturdy and you would have to try pretty hard to tip this thing over. I even took this boat on the mighty Mississippi several times. I have ran over several rocks and sticks on accident, and I have never burst it. This boat is huge meaning it has plenty of leg room. Me, a woman 5'7, a guy about 200 pounds 6'0 tall and another man 5'10 160 all road in this thing together on the mississippi and ghost river and it was very sturdy!
My only major complaint is the seats need to be attached just right to be comfortable, and there are 4 adjustable straps to hook on to the boat per seat so that can be a little annoying, but worth it as it maximizes potential comfort. The skeg is also very long, which makes tracking excellent, but on some shallow waters this is a problem, and without the skeg this should not be considered a kayak but more like a raft. Also, this thing is HUGE by the way, even wrapped up (which is good too b/c there is plenty of leg room!), and the bag that its put in is awkward and I would not recommend carrying it in the bag long distances, its much too heavy/weird carrying position. Its not really a bad actually but a big sheet like/cover thing that wraps up which is good as it is easy to wrap up versus stuffing it in a barely big enough bag like other kayaks.
Overall I would definitely recommend this boat!
