| | Description | You want a light craft that wonAAAt wimp out when you hit the occasional rock along the shore. A bow that doesnAAAt submarine when you hit a wave would be nice too. Necky built the Looksha 12 Kayak with a durable PolyLite material and a high-volume bow. Since seat comfort makes the difference between pleasant hours on the water and torturous back and butt pain, Necky gave the LookshaAAAs seat back lumbar-angle adjustment, back-height adjustability, and a seat pan that wonAAAt squish your legs together. Adjustable thigh braces increase comfort and keep the gunnel from digging into your thighs.

Day Tripper! Dec 01, 2009
By Hal C. Bryson Recently purchased the Looksha 12 from a kayak store in coastal North Carolina, and so far I have no regrets. I was looking for a not-too-big (not-too-long and not-too-heavy), yet not-too-short kayak for coastal exploration, lakes touring and the occasional down-river (nothing above Class II) adventure. This boat fits the bill quite well. I had owned Necky kayaks in the past, so I knew they made a nice boat, and this one is no exception. Has pretty good glide for a 12'1" boat, a high-volume bow for riding up and over waves in the surf zone, a multi-chined hull for responsive handling (with good primary AND secondary stability) and yet long enough (and rudder-ready) to track true over long distances. Now, don't get me wrong: it's not the best boat for multi-day, long-distance touring; but as a day tripper, or even as a weekend warrior on the water, it's a really nice package. And it has both bow and stern bulkheads (for flotation/storage), perimeter deck lines, and a roomy -- yet customizable -- cockpit. The adjustable seat position and thigh braces ensure a nice comfy fit for a variety of paddler dimensions. [I'm 5'9" and 200 pounds.] I also tried the Necky Manitou 13 and, although a very nice boat also, the cockpit was too much of a tight squeeze for me. Only negative I can point to so far on the Looksha 12: at 50 pounds, it's not exactly lightweight; so a solo person loading it up onto the roof rack will get a bit of a workout. But that's a very small price to pay for such a nice boat. If you can find one for under $850 or so, I'd say Jump On It! :-) Happy Paddling, everyone. P.S. I got mine in yellow -- nice and bright, highly visible around motor boat traffic, crossing the intracoastal waterway, etc.
