Some problems, but usable and compact Oct 09, 2011
By Hans Boehm I have several kayak paddles. This one has the advantage that it breaks down into smaller sections than anything comparable that I've found so far. It fits in a duffle bag with an inflatable kayak, which barely fits on the back of my bike. And it's much more functional than some of the (even more packable) toy paddles, like the cheap Sevylor plastic paddles. This one feels roughly like a real kayak paddle.
On the negative side, you have to be careful to insert the paddle blade onto the shaft sufficiently. We've had one fall of once, fortunately in calm shallow water. And if I tighten the connections sufficiently to keep the blades reasonably aligned, it becomes difficult to later disassemble the paddle, especially with wet hands. And I expect the uncovered aluminum shaft could be unpleasant in cold water or weather, thought I live someplace where that's less of an issue. And the whole thing never feels anywhere near as sturdy as a one or two piece paddle.
I have not yet had a problem with it bending, although I've had the paddle for several years, and used it maybe a dozen times. I have avoided using it on white water.
If you need something really cheap and/or compact, I don't know of a better choice. Otherwise, there are clearly much better paddles.

By Charles Pyle The weekend after this arrived, I bent it pushing off the bottom of the bay. it's also heavy. Overall, it's a get what you pay for thing. Just disappointed. As a note, it has become a serviceable back up. Make sure and have a tether so you won't have to.
