| | Description | The Colorado has a raised bow and stern and is as close in shape, comfort and styling to the traditional North American Indian canoe as an inflatable boat will ever get. It's double hull construction makes it very rugged and rigid. The canoe combines the stability, maneuverability and sea worthiness of a kayak with comfort, looks and styling of the traditional North American canoe. Ideally suited for rough waters, lakes, ocean, fishing and diving and great for beginners. Includes 2 bucket seats, removable stern storage compartment, 2 directional strakes, carrying handles, multiple d-rings and ties, motor mount fittings (to attach a Sevylor SBM 12V trolling motor), and a nylon carrying bag | |

sevylor canoes. (boats for the rest of us) Apr 07, 2007
By Liam V. Elliott I have to be honest, I love sevylor canoes. I decided one day I would like a boat, I certainly couldn't afford a traditional boat of any kind, so I looked to 'budget' alternatives. I remembered seeing inflatable canoes from my summer holidays and wondered if such things still existed. Sure enough, 100 bucks later with my new sevylor, cheap paddles and life preserver I was waterbourne! My first canoe was the Sevelor Tahiti and never has it failed me, my colorado is a upgrade because I was deployed with the Army and bought a gift for myself! For under 500 I have a sevylor colorado, an engine, battery and charger! Thats right folks perpetual motion (almost) for a mere 500 bucks!
There are obviously disadvantages of an inflatable canoe as compared to a hard shell canoe. Primarily an inflatable canoe is slower to paddle and will not be as responsive. That being said I would like to talk about the considerable advantages!
In less than 10 minutes I can set up and be under way, thats pretty fast especially when you don't have to tie the thing to the roof of your car.
Inflatable canoes are soft and therefore are comfortable.
They are much more buoyant than hard shell canoes, after all they are filled with air! That means my little boat can carry me and 320 pounds of equipment!
Its light, I can carry my boat to the water regardless of distance, I don't need a fancy little wheeled thingy.
they bounce over rocks.(I know I tried!)In my opinion inflatable canoes will always be more robust than a hard shell, you can't be harder than a rock, so why not be softer? (very zen)
Needless to say I am a huge fan of my Seveylor Colorado, just for the record I have named my boat 'Serenity' although I am having difficulty breaking the champagne bottle...

Sevylor inflatable Colorado Canoe Jun 27, 2007
By K. Pegel I think that this Sevylor canoe is a great buy for the money. It is easy to haul and set up. We keep it on a shelf in the garage and throw it in the car on a whim to go to the local lake all the time. We are both over 45 and come close to hitting the maxium weight limit. My husband and grown sons use it for fishing all the time. We do not have the money, space, or trailer to have a regular canoe. This has worked out great. Our grown children have stopped by on weekends, picked up the canoe and went out and had a great day. It is very easy to store, carry and set up.
We also bought the sevylor trolling motor, it is also great. For 80.00 you can not go wrong. We camp alot on small lakes and rivers. This is the perfect little extra for the trip. We bought the canoe, 2 paddles, the trolling motor and a deep cycle marine battery, all for under $400.00.
I am not saying that there are'nt better canoes out there. What I am saying is for the money, convience, fun, storage issues. this is a great product.
It is great for the whole family. Money is always a consideration with us. I try to get the best buy for our dollar and we feel this is one. We have hit rocks, dragged on pavement ect... and it holds up. It is very well built and sturdy.
Of course this canoe could do better tracking when paddling, of course it could be more comfortable, but I did not buy a $1000.00 canoe. For a grand total of 400.00 ( with all the extra's). We have something that does exactly what we bought it to do!. We have truely enjoyed this product and it as shown us what great fun being on the water is with out it being a huge expense. This set up is something the average family can afford, store, use and be happy with.
The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating, was because it made me want more...a big boat!

great boat Jan 02, 2008
By S. Gruver Great boat for the price. Not the fastest boat in the water but very stable, durable, fun and convenient. The bottom is thick (which does add considerable weight) and extremely resistant to puncture. Its great to have a boat in the trunk where ever we go.

Suitable as a toy or a float for diving equipment Jun 08, 2004
By G. Powell Here's the problem with these inflateable canoe's kayak's: They don't have a keel. I.e. they sit so high out of the water that they don't track when you paddle them. This is an issue when you want to go any distance or when the wind comes up. On the other hand, if you have a quiet lake and want to anchor a float for the kids to swim out to, climb in and out of, play king-of-the-float games, this will do. Or if you are a diver and want to anchor a float to hold your stuff after you bring it back up, this boat will do. But otherwise its an expensive toy, not a boat.Advantage over a regular canoe, difficult to tip over. Even when full of water, it will float high. Disadvantage, you can't go anywhere. It's no better than an inner tube on a river. If the wind comes up, you will be downwind quickly. Frustrating to paddle.

Great Value for Your First Canoe Sep 12, 2008

Okay, the Colorado by Sevylor just what I was searching for, rugged materials, portable and lightweight enough for air travel and roomy enough to store plenty of make-up for fishing or primitive camping for two. Let's Get Primitive: The Urban Girl's Guide to Camping
The 2 adjustable seats provide comfort for hours of paddling and relaxed reading. How to Die in the Outdoors: 100 Interesting Ways I was concerned but pleasantly surprised that DID come with a skeg tracking fin (crucial in straight line maneuverability). You'll want to attach this before you inflate; otherwise it's almost impossible to add later. The 5 separate air chambers insure that if you lose pressure in one chamber (i.e. unskilled bait casting), the others act as a safety feature. FYI: For those of you who flunked your 8th grade Science class, water temperature will affect the air pressure of your inflatable...bring along a bellows style foot pump Coleman Bellows Foot Pump to re-inflate during extended trips. Also use the foot pump to top off your canoe's air supply, since a 12-V electric does not supply enough pressure. The included air pressure gauge is a cool surprise accessory as well, but was a tad tricky to use at first. Enlist the help of degreed engineer and you'll be floating at perfect psi inflation in no time.
There are a number of handy D-Rings for cargo & tie down, paddle ties and well placed carry handles but I received only ONE of the TWO promised removable hull storage compartments. Hey you at Seyvlor, what's up with that?
Love my new canoe!...You'll toss out your partner before you'll part with this little gem of a craft. Toss the Guilt and Catch the Joy: A Woman's Guide to a Better Life
