| | Description | The SUPER CARAVELLE has been the flagship line of Sevylor boats for over 50 years. Origanaly called the "Caravelle", the first oval boat manufactured in the world to incorporate DIN construction (boat within a boat safety chambers). Over the years, numerous improvements were made to the boat including the addition of tunnel chambers to the bottom of the boat (to help with tracking and stability), oval molded oarlocks (for ease of rowing), grommets (for the installation of the Sevylor SBM 12 volt trolling motor) and improvements in the PVC material used in the construction of the boats making them the new SUPER CARAVELLES. Sevylor uses a heavy gauge virgin PVC on all SUPER CARAVELLES. You can be assured many years of reliable service from the SUPER CARAVELLE just like the millions of people that curently own one. Oars and pump sold separately. | |

Bad Specifications Jun 04, 2010
By D. G. Lemon
"Juicy"
I bought this Sevylor 3-person Super Caravelle (model XR66GTX-7) from Amazon, June 2010. It is a good boat, HOWEVER, the specifications are NOT CORRECT!
Actual width (inflated) is: 3'-9" (45"), NOT 4'-7" (55" or 1.40m) listed at Amazon, and on the Sevylor box and on the Sevylor website.
Actual length (inflated) is: 7'-5" (89"), NOT 7'-10" (or 2.40m) listed at Amazon, and on the Sevylor box and on the Sevylor website.
Actual rated capacity marked on the boat hull is: 450 lbs or 200kg, 3 persons, NOT 600 lbs listed at Amazon and on the Sevylor box.
These are rather serious discrepancies that I can not easily explain by metric to English conversion errors. I do not fault Amazon, as they are only repeating the data from Sevylor. It appears that Sevylor's data is seriously IN ERROR! I wonder what other specifications are also wrong - perhaps the thickness of the PVC hull material?
Overall, it appears to be a fairly decent boat for about $50. The inflation nozzles on 5 of the 6 chambers are the "cheesy" clear vinyl type found on low cost air mattresses. Although it is rated for 3 persons, it really only has room for 2 average size adults.

I like these Sevylor boats Aug 07, 2007
By Jill Richter We've owned Sevylor boats for years and have used them as a dinghy for our sailboat. They usually hold up very well and last about 3 years. We tend to abuse them, loading them up with stuff, including a dog or 2 and they can take it. I would have given it 5 stars but the last one we got ripped at the seams as we were paddling in from out boat. We started taking on a lot of water but the floatation rings kept us from totally sinking. I called Sevylor and they said to send them the unit and they would see if it was defective but we decided it wasn't worth the cost of shipping if they weren't going to definitely replace it. But we ended up buying another Sevylor because we've had good luck with them in the past and trust them overall.

A good little boat Aug 19, 2010
By jim g I chose this boat, in part, because we had a Caravelle (the yellow and blue one) when I was a kid. And that little boat lasted yrs and yrs!
In the yrs since, I have owned and cared for zodiacs and all manners of "dinghies" for use with my sailboats, diving, etc.. I currently own an 11ft. plywood-bottom Zodiac with 8hp transom. I have some idea about 'rubber' boats.
We bought this boat for messin' about on mountain lakes (with 2 young kids). A toy.
But I'd be comfortable using this with my sailboat for near shore work, even.
Comfortable for 2 adults. Or 1 adult and 2 small kids.
This boat is great bang for the buck.
The price is a good value considering the flimsy competition in the lesser price range.
The assembly is pretty good. Seams are strong, material is robust. Silk screen graphics, however, were not centered/aligned properly and that leaves a lopsided visual of the boat when you look at it on center. Not much of an issue.. but such a shame! A visual detail like that is hard to miss.
Oars and pump are not included. Which means if you spend the time you can buy better product than what is available in the "all-in-one box" raft kits. A "plus", IMHO.
I would AVOID inflating this raft in direct summer sun.. The black graphics absorb considerable heat and the PVC material stretches much more in those locations. I had not given it much thought on our first on-site inflation and with 1/2 the boat in direct sun I found myslef with an assymetric boat. WOAH!
I quickly deflated it, well below the suggested measure. And we had good fun with it anyway. Upon second inlfation, 2 days later and in the shade.. the boat pumped up symmetrically.
The boat rows pretty well with decent oars. I am not sure if the "stablilizer" chambers on either side" help with this. Those chambers do keep the boat from rolling some upon entering and exiting.
Pretty happy with it.. and can definitley recommend this product.
Funny, too.
The day we took our new raft out to the lake, I found our old Caravelle raft stashed away in the family cabin storage.. the old yellow and blue model. I thought it was long gone.
Pumped it up. And here its some 30 yrs later and the thing still held air.

Good Little Boat Feb 20, 2009
By Silverhawk89 This is a good little boat to float around the lake or pool. It is pretty well made and quite easy to row. Be aware that you really won't get 3 adults in this boat-maybe 2 adults and a child.

Should not be your first boat. May 01, 2011
By Mark Twain "Sam" Looks like Chinese manufacturer doesn't have anything in the factory except plastic. So, you get plastic boat only. No pump, no oars whatsoever. If you are not familiar in such boats (and it's easily possible that you aren't)- you won't be able to configure the boat with just some air pump. The biggest section uses different valve size than others 5 sections. That said, if don't know the size of it- you are out of luck.
A good air pump for this boat plus a pair of oars will cost you more than you'll pay for this boat. Does this bargain then make any sense?
