cheap and compact Mar 15, 2009
By Ron PA Cheap and compact are the best things about this paddle. My grip ends up right on each joiner collar making it a little uncomfortable but tolerable for light paddling. My big problem always came when it was time to break it apart again; the compression fittings' plastic threads tend to stick together when tightened and they break free with a cracking sound and great effort. I can do the paddles by hand but need strap wrenches on the shaft collars and after several uses the threaded part spun loose from the shaft and with the collar locked over it, I can't get it out to repair. Still I might get another paddle and use silicone on the threads and epoxy the male threaded parts to the shaft before using. Pretty annoying having the price one penny below the free shipping price though.

Ours is still great after 10 years but ... Nov 20, 2009
By Jenny We have used one of these for over 10 years. It is very light and comes apart and goes together easily. It can be used as one piece or taken apart and used as separate paddles in a small raft. This also makes it easy to transport and store. No rust as it is made of aluminum. We now have two small kids and this paddle has survived many casual lake adventures and it's alternate use as a sand shovel. We love it. If you want a paddle for many lazy lake afternoons, I highly recommend it.
I was just here to buy one for a relative, and was puzzled by the poor reviews. Checking the web, I see that Coleman has purchased Sevylor. We have a small Sevylor raft that is over 10 years old, colors still bright, no leaks. A friend bought a similar raft from Coleman that is leaking after season 1. I was buying this to replace the paddle that came with her Coleman raft and broke. Perhaps this explains the poor reviews above.

Personal safety May 26, 2009
By Mark Twain I bought two of these paddles. (my bad) I haven't assembled the second one, but the first one broke after I was 500 feet from shore!!! Take my advice, buy a cheap kayak, but NOT a cheap paddle.

Bad design Aug 06, 2010
By Heather Bella I bought two of these and first one lost a blade in the middle of a lake, then (after making sure that we had them assembled right) on our next trip the other one lost a blade! What terrible design. Throwing money down the drain, this is. I could have bought a decent paddle for the price I paid for those two!
