So Much Fun and So Portable Oct 13, 2010
By Cougs1 I bought two of the Sevylor Samoa Standup Inflatable Paddleboards and I have been nothing but impressed with them ever since. First, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they arrived. I purchased lightweight telescoping paddles at a local sporting goods store and was out on the water within days of purchasing. I was skeptical that an inflatable board would be very sturdy - but my fear was unfounded. The boards look and feel like solid boards, but they have the (very important) feature of being portable. I wouldn't want to lug one of them if I went hiking, but deflated and in their cases, they fit in the trunk and back seat nicely. This winter, I will even take them to the Caribbean. I was also pleasantly surprised at how easy they are to use and inflate. When first starting out, I found that locking my knees kept my legs from shaking. With just a little practice, I could easily stand naturally while paddling. It is so nice to paddle or float sitting, standing or laying down. So versatile! Everyone who sees us on the lake wants to know what they are. I feel like we are SUP ambassadors. Definitely the best purchase I've made in years.

Awesome Board, Very Happy!! Jul 01, 2010
By Mervin Baylon Purchased this board/paddle/kit combo after reading all the reviews. Was a bit skeptical of the "inflatable" aspect of the board...but let me tell you, @ the proper PSI, this thing is ROCK SOLID!!
Kit came with a 72" Sevylor Paddle and contrary to the other reviews, the paddle was just fine and perfect size for me and my wife (5'8" & 5'5")
Kit is easy to setup and a absolute blast to ride. We are using this on a lake so wont be seeing much "wave" action, but it did the job and it did it well!!
This thing is awesome. Ended up buying a pair for me and my wife...she was EVEN more skeptical because it was "inflatable" but she ate her previous comments once we hit the open water.
Great product!!
(C O S T C O has the full kit (Board, pump, pressure gauge & carring case + 72" paddle = [..]) ;)

Survived the Grand Canyon Apr 26, 2011
By CT Bought this for our 24 day private rafting trip down the Colorado river in the grand canyon. It not only survived, but thrived in an abusive environment. Its not as fast as a hard SUP, but its durable. Pumping it up isn't the easiest task, but it is surprisingly rigid when pumped taut. We even took it to Baja on the airplane as checked baggage- try doing that with a standard SUP! Not sure it would be that great on the waves as its slower than a rigid SUP, but for rivers, flat water bays and lakes it works well enough. Best part is it doesn't break when you hit rocks.
Make sure you put the fins on BEFORE pumping up the SUP, otherwise you'll have to go through the pumping process again.
For the money its a great deal. If you're an avid SUP user though in the ocean or on flat water, get a rigid board.

Fantastic Jul 27, 2011
By hivemind I love this thing. I've been using it regularly since I bought it in early June. It is sturdy, lightweight, and easy to manage. It works well for me (5'2"), my husband (6'), and several other people of varying sizes. It is ready to go in less than 10 minutes. I normally use it on a flatware river, but also used it for a week at the beach, and it did fine in the surf. I'm not a surfer, so I wasn't disappointed by it's reportedly clunky handling. I will say that the die-hard surfers staying next to us at the beach were astounded to learn that my board was inflatable.
A few things about my experience: at first I had difficulty snapping the fins into place. 'pinching' the pieces together is difficult because it involves man-handling the stiff fabric the opposite way it is rolled upon arrival. But it's worth it to wrestle the pieces into a 'pinch', and gets easier after you've done it a few times.
Second, the first time I inflated it, it sounded like the valve was leaking air. I kept pumping, and the air stopped leaking. I think this occurred when I started getting the inflation up to pressure, and once it was past 1 or 2 psi, there was enough pressure to hold the valve in place, and stop the hissing. I left it inflated the entire week I was at the beach, and it did not loose any air at all.
Third, I have never tried, or needed to, get it past 8 psi, even though you can get it up to 12. Again, this has been sufficient for me, and everyone else who has used it.
Fourth, evidently I had a defective pump, which quit working after the 4th or 5th time I used it. I called the 800 number on the warranty, and had a free replacement pump within a week. The customer service people were lovely.
Finally, the fins are very sturdy (all 3 of mine got run over, and still work great), but if you loose one, you can buy replacement fins for about $10 by calling Sevylor/Coleman (parent company). These are not listed on the website, so you'll have to call the customer service people.
Ok, hope this helps! Happy paddling!

Get into IT! (or on IT)! Jul 16, 2011
By D. Goodheart
"Heartfelt"
If you see a person standing up and paddling on a board for the first time, you may wonder what in the world they are doing. I did; the first time I saw one was in Miami Beach several years ago. Now it has become something for young and old alike. And I am old, or at least relatively so - turning 64 in a couple of months. We live right on the beach in Florida, and I do ride the waves on a body board. I have decided it's too late for me to start surfing. But maybe... I could do standup paddling!
So I bought the Sevylor Samoa Standup Inflatable Paddleboard. I have used it several times, and I do enjoy it. I am still learning to balance, but I have watched some on line video instructions and that has helped. In calm water I can stand and paddle fairly decently. I am sure I will get better the more I do it.
The good:
The board is relatively light and easy to carry even when inflated. I can carry it by myself with little strain.
The duffle/backpack that it comes in makes it easy to store and carry when deflated.
The surface pads are rough enough to enable a good grip but not too rough when you are sitting or kneeling on the board.
The fact that the board is not hard wood makes it more forgiving for beginners. If you happen to fall and hit the surface, you are less likely to get hurt.
The enclosed pressure gauge works well and makes it easy to check the pressure.
I like riding on it in a sitting position. Quite comfortable and a lot easier to ride the waves that way than sitting in a kayak.
Much less expensive that most standup paddleboards, which usually start around $1,000.
The not so good:
The board takes a lot of effort to inflate. Of course, the first time I did not read the instruction and did not put the fins on first, so I had to deflate it and inflate it all over again.
A fairly steep learning curve at the beginning to learn to balance.
Does not come with a leash, which is highly recommended to avoid losing the board in the water.
Mine came with a paddle, but I did not buy it through Amazon. It looks like this one does not come with it.
Bottom line: Try it! Get into it (or on it) and I believe you will be glad you did.
