Don't Leave Land Without It! Jun 25, 2009

This is the BEST paddle for the price PERIOD.
I bought this paddle at Dicks when I bought my first kayak years ago. I still use the same one every time and three kayaks later (extra kayaks and more expensive of course) I am buying this paddle again and recommended it to my father. He has tried other ones that were higher priced and he has come to love the SeaSense also.
Some two-piece paddles have a loose fit in the center or develop a loose fit over time. The Seasense 8690 has a snug fit, and I am talking about the first one I bought, it still is snug. The handle area is padded which is great for long trips upstream. The padded area increases grip. I am 5'9" and enjoy the length because it gives me so much more stroke (this paddle also comes in an 80-some-odd-inch length: model 8680?). The length also empowers me to make more aggressive turns. This paddle is light and strong, its not carbon-fiber but its strong. The ends are plastic, the right combination of flexiblity and rigidity. The feel in the water is obviously to my liking.

Very comfortable. They may be just a tad too long for a shorter person.

Good for the price Apr 19, 2008

I have purchased 2 paddles for my kayak previously--a basic aluminum shaft starter paddle and an expensive carbon paddle. Several freinds have expressed interest in starting to paddle, one being 6 ft 4 in tall. Both of my paddles were too short for him to use in my boat. I purchased this paddle just to get him started comfortably. He loved it. We both thought for the recreational, occasional flat water paddler , it was a good value. Well made for the price and comfortable to use. He felt the cupped design of the blade helped him get more out of his stroke. Recommend for tall beginners out for a leisurely day on the water.

best paddle so far Sep 03, 2010
By jani Well, I bought this 96" one for my husband and I bought a 84" different paddle for myself and guess what? I like his better and I am only 5' 1 1/2" ! I can move faster through the water with this one and less splashing water onto myself or into the kayak! this one can dig deep in the water more so than the little paddle. I am going to buy a second one of these. Even if I had to cut it down a few inches or so to make it more my size, I prefer this 96" over the 84" hands-down.

Great starter paddle Mar 28, 2008

I just bought a nice kayak that didn't have a paddle. I actually was astonished at the price of paddles. I think I made the right choice for my first paddle. The price was right, it's light, it's comfortable, it comes apart to store easily. It will make a great second paddle, if I ever buy a great paddle, which I may never do. I would say one thing, if your just starting don't spend money on a great paddle until you get a feel for what your doing and know what kind of "great" paddle you may want. I am beating the crap out of this one and if I had a "great" paddle right now I would have broken it at least twice.
